LALIGA unveils its new remote-control camera at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano

LALIGA continues to lead the way in technological innovations in broadcasting, with the Riyadh Air Metropolitano as a clear example.

On 27 September, the eyes of the footballing world turned to the Spanish capital for the Atlético de Madrid v Real Madrid derby on Matchday 7 of LALIGA. The iconic clash was chosen by Spain’s top competition to debut AGITO, its new remote-control camera designed to deliver spectacular close-up shots and enhance the audiovisual experience for fans.

The device consists of the vehicle, the head and the camera itself, equipped with special wheels and shock absorbers to avoid damaging the pitch. In addition, during the derby – won by Atlético de Madrid – sensors were used to maintain a safe distance from players and referees. LALIGA announced this audiovisual innovation, aimed at offering fans the best possible experience, through its official corporate channels, and thanked Atlético de Madrid for its willingness and support in implementing the project at our stadium. A full and vibrant Riyadh Air Metropolitano, hosting the derby, thus became the first LALIGA venue to feature this new tool that will bring greater spectacle to match broadcasts.

Our stadium’s commitment to innovation to enhance the fan experience.

Since its inauguration in 2017, the Riyadh Air Metropolitano has become a global benchmark in the sports industry. Its original features, along with its ongoing innovation, enabled it to host the 2019 Champions League final. Less than a decade later, it will once again do so in 2027, consolidating its status as one of Europe’s most prestigious sporting venues.

Among the stadium’s latest developments are the Sky Ribbon, a spectacular 360-degree screen measuring 404 metres around the inner ring of the stadium roof and nearly five metres in height; the LED tunnel welcoming players onto the pitch; and the LED cylinders located around the exterior of the stadium to provide fans with information.

Inside the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, the fan experience has also been redefined with the introduction of unique new spaces such as the Tunnel Club by Riyadh Air, a 550 m² VIP area with capacity for 150 guests who can watch players moving through the dressing-room area with direct views of the tunnel and the stairs leading to the pitch. Other highlights include the Mahou and Red Bull Clubs, alongside an expanded and upgraded range of food and beverage options.
